17. User Classes > Access > Dynamic Library Holdings
WilsonWeb offers two types of Library Holdings features including Dynamic
Holdings and Static Holdings. Dynamic Holdings create a link out from each
record (see the "Library Owns" icon) to the library’s OPAC system where
additional information about each record would be located. Static Holdings
is information that is maintained by the library and downloaded to Wilson,
so that searches can be restricted to their own library holdings and
customized messages can appear within the record citation.
Note: From this screen, only the most common type of Library Holdings
feature, the Dynamic Holdings, is possible. Static Library Holdings
customer’s information will be downloaded to Wilson and should be arranged
with Wilson’s Technical Support Group prior to FTPing the information (see
details below).
First, click on the Access button. Several appropriate buttons will then
appear on the left toolbar, including the Library Holdings button. Click
Library Holdings.
Dynamic Holdings
From this screen it will be possible to create a link from each record to
the library’s catalog/OPAC system. By enabling this feature, a "Library
Owns" icon will appear next to each record. By clicking on the icon, the
user will be able to link to the OPAC system for additional information.
The system uses ISSN numbers for periodicals and ISBN numbers for books to
locate the information. Available OPAC systems are listed in the OPAC
Query Name: dropdown box. If the administrator cannot identify their OPAC
system, they should contact HW Wilson. The system will automatically enter
the most common OPAC queries when the OPAC system is selected from the
OPAC Query dropdown box. The library administrator must then define the
base address (Dynamic Holdings URL) used to access holdings.
The OPAC Query Name dropdown displays a list of all available queries to
append to the URL of a site. As you navigate the dropdown list, the
corresponding ISSN and ISBN are shown on the screen. In addition, the type
of modification to the ISSN or ISBN for each query is displayed. The
default display is No Modification. If a particular kind of query is not
included in this list, you must contact HW Wilson to have it added to the
list.
If your OPAC is not found, please contact
Tech Support.
The Dynamic Holdings URL box is where the URL address of the site to be
accessed should be entered. Once both the query and URL are defined, the
administrator must click the Modify Dynamic Holdings button in order to
save the changes.
To set Dynamic Holdings for user access:
-
Choose the appropriate OPAC query. Note the modification as displayed on
screen.
-
Enter the Dynamic Holdings URL that you want to connect to.
-
Click Modify Dynamic Holdings.

Static Holdings
The WilsonWeb Static Journal Holdings feature displays the library’s local
holdings information along with WilsonWeb database records, and indicates
whether or not a cited publication is available in your library. The
"Library Owns" icon will appear next to each record available in the
library.
How it works:
You must FTP a file containing your library’s journal holdings information
to Wilson. This information is then linked to your account. The holdings
message you provide for a journal will then be displayed wherever the
journal is cited.
Please note the following:
-
The library should send information on holdings only.
-
Only records owned by the library will have the "Library Owns" icon next
to a record in the search results.
-
On the Advanced Search page there is a check off box available to the user
that will limit searches to library holdings.
-
Search result citations will have a field with the library’s message in
the record.
