18. User Classes > Access > Search Criteria
The Search Criteria feature will have limited applications and should be
approached by the administrator with some caution. It is possible to
append to all queries submitted to the Verity search engine an
administrator-defined search string that would be designed to create
specific results. See the example below. The administrator should proceed
cautiously in the implementation of this feature because it could impact
the performance of the system.
Example:
If a library has access to one or two databases it may be possible to use
this feature to some advantage. An administrator could append "2001" in
PY (PY being the field for Publication Year) or any other valid Verity
Query String for the existing databases. This example would modify all
queries submitted so that only data published in 2001 would be retrieved.
Access to data before 2001 would be eliminated for all users.
If an administrator decides to use this screen, it should be done only
with great caution and thought.
First, click on the Access button. Several appropriate buttons will
then appear on the left toolbar, including the Search Criteria
button. Click Search Criteria.
