22. WilsonLink / SFX

The WilsonLink service (powered by SFX technology) is an optional free to WilsonWeb subscribers  technology that will help to integrate a library’s electronic subscription services and will include even those services that are not WilsonWeb databases. Wilson is hosting its own SFX server and will link to any full-text article in the library’s collection that uses the OpenURL format, even if not in a WilsonWeb database. On the WilsonLink / SFX screen the administrator can choose how this feature should work within the institution.

First, click on the Access button. Several appropriate buttons will then appear on the left toolbar, including the WilsonLink button. Click WilsonLink.

The choices are:

Wilson Choice 1, 2, or 3: After clicking on the Wilson Choice numbers in the select box to the left side of the screen, you can see the database selections. To the right are the databases included in this service, available for each Wilson choice. Note that additional customization for any of these three choices is not possible, due to licensing restrictions. Also, it should be noted that it will not be possible to link to a full text record unless the library subscribes to the particular vendor’s service where the record can be found.

Subscriber Link Server:
Select if your organization has its own OpenURL - compatible link resolver server.

No link server desired (the default setting):
Select if the library does not want to participate in the WilsonLink service.

You can only select the menu choices shown in the Choose one: box.
The selection will be system wide.

To select a menu:

1. Click on the menu choice in the Choose one: box that most closely matches the database subscription list or the requirements of the organization, making certain that all subscription databases for the organization are included in the list. The contents of that choice will appear in the box to the right.
    
   If a database subscription is not listed, it will not be possible to integrate that particular database with the WilsonLink service.

2. Click Save.

To configure WilsonWeb to use the organization's own OpenURL resolution service, enter the server's URL, starting with http://, in the box below the select box and then click Submit.

Customizing the WilsonLink icon:

1. Browse your computer to locate the graphic, open and its location will then appear in the Upload Custom Link Menu Icon: box.

2. Next, type in any new text in the Set Custom Link Menu Icon Label: box.

3. Type in desired text for the tool tip that will appear next to the icon near each record. (Required)

4. Finally, click Save if your changes are acceptable.

Note: The new customized link menu icon at present can only be 16 x 16 pixels. A future enhancement will permit enlarging the graphic.
