7. User Classes > Configuration
One of the unique features of the New WilsonWeb customization process is
that the system has the ability to create User Classes (or Groups) within
a WilsonWeb account for the following access types: TCPIP, Patron ID, and
Referrer pages. The Administrator Module’s User Class functionality allows
an institution to create various access points within their WilsonWeb
access portfolio. The system provides you with a default User Class. A
portfolio is defined by the databases to which an institution subscribes.
Access points are defined by the creation and access management of User
Classes within an access portfolio.
For example, a library can customize the WilsonWeb interface to be
designed for separate groups within the library such as staff or library
card holders. Another example might be a university library system where
different User Classes are needed for the main library and its branch
libraries. Additional Subset User Groups might be desired within each
branch library such as students, faculty and staff.
Understanding User Classes (or Groups) is critical to understanding the
administrative screens. An account can be defined by the following access
points: a range (or list) of TCPIP addresses, Patron ID’s or http
Referring Sites. They can limit or allow database access within the user
class within an access portfolio. These accounts can be partitioned into
User Classes through the administrative screens.
After User Classes are created or defined, they can be used throughout the
administrative screens to customize the interface for the following:
-
Buttons (left toolbar)
-
Toolbar text (bottom taskbar)
-
Setting the startup screen
-
Defining timeout site
-
Restricting database access
-
Displaying custom links
-
Restricting functionality by User Groups
WilsonWeb only permits User Group members to login displaying the
customized interface information allowed by the account subscriber
administrator. This data always takes precedence over custom group
information created by the administrator. When configuring an individual
terminal, you cannot establish User Classes for that terminal.
