II. Getting Started
WilsonWeb
The H.W. Wilson Information Retrieval System for the World Wide Web
provides several search tools for accessing information stored in
databases. You can search for records pertaining to a topic of interest,
then show, print, and download those records. This Quick Reference Guide
provides information about using WilsonWeb. H.W. Wilson also provides a
unique Guide for each loaded database, containing information specific to
that database.
System Requirements
Selecting Databases
At any time during your search session, you can select one or more
databases from those that are available. You can also narrow the list of
databases by subject matter. WilsonWeb will retain your search history so
that you can repeat searches on the new databases.

If necessary, scroll through the list of available
databases, and check the one(s) you want to search.

Click
Search or SearchPlus on the button bar. WilsonWeb displays the
appropriate Search page.

Click on icon for database information and
for Journal
Lists.
Note: If you would like to know which database(s)
will provide the highest number of returns for your search, click Check
Relevant Database.
SearchPlus
The SearchPlus page allows you to easily perform
complex searches and to qualify search requests by entering numerous terms
and selecting from available categories. In addition, you can combine
search terms, select full-text articles only, choose an article type, and
qualify your term by date.

Biography SearchPlus Page
To construct a search:

Type a word or phrase in the text entry area.

If desired, modify your search by selecting from the
available on-screen options.

The available limit fields depend on the database(s)
you are searching.

You can also combine search terms by clicking AND,
OR, NOT.
Click SearchNOW.
Note: If you simultaneously select a biographical
database, such as Current Biography and a non-biographical database, such
as Readers’ Guide, the program will default to the SearchPlus screen, not
the Biography SearchPlus screen. |
