WilsonDisc for Windows
Journal Holdings Conversion Utility 4.0

General Release for Windows 98/95/NT

Disabling Specific Databases for holdings
WilsonDisc 4.0 for Windows lets you disable holdings display
for specific databases. Holdings messages will not appear
in records from the databases you specify. This mechanism
applies only to locally mounted databases. Records from
databases accessed via an ERL server will still show holdings
messages, unless holdings from these databases have also
been disabled at the ERL server.

To disable a database from displaying holdings messages,
a line of the form: !42=XX, YY, ...should appear in the first section of WilsonDisc for Windows.ini (the section headed [] ).
The !42= is followed by a comma separated list of
databases to exclude from holdings messages, where
XX, YY etc are the first two letters of the database Volume
IDs. For example, the line: !42=WI, FT
would prevent holdings messages appearing for Readers' Guide Abstracts and Education Abstracts Full Text. An example line appears in WilsonDisc for Windows.ini, commented out by an initial semicolon.

Known Issues and Problems

Duplicate ISSN numbers
If you want to use the default function, do not check the
Concatenate Messages from duplicate ISSNs / titles. JHCU will use
the first Journal Holdings Message.

JHCU
This utility is designed for standalone use only.
A Windows network version will be available in the near future.

Uninstalling JHCU Files
IMPORTANT: If you wish to remove the JHCU utility from your
server, you must run the UNINSTALL JHCU script. If you attempt
to do this by simply deleting the files, you may be unable to install JHCU (or WebAdmin) again due to corruption of the registry
files.

Adding a new MARC format
The name you assign to a new MARC format is limited to 30
characters. If you add a new format, the only way to remove
it is to delete the file "holdings.dat". The definition will
revert to its default values.

When defining a new format, make sure that you do not leave
blank Message text entry boxes between Message Tags that
you are defining.

Title is limited to 82 or fewer characters
Journal titles longer than 82 characters will be truncated.

Error if Trailing Characters after last record in a MARC conversion
Any trailing characters following the last record in a MARC
conversion will be reported by JHCU as a fatal error. However,
everthing preceding those characters will have been processed
appropriately. Evidence of these characters will be found in
the final processing statistics. For example, if you see a message
such as "2 records output" rather than the actual number of
records you expected in your output file.

Do Not Use Double Quotes in Default Messages
In writing your introductory message, do not include the
double quote <"> character anywhere in the message. A single
quote <'> may be used instead. This applies to both the default
message and the introductory message for held journals.
It applies regardless of whether the messages are added
within the JHCU interface, or within the holdout.cfg file.
