In case you haven’t noticed, the HW Wilson Company has
recently release several critically important databases. Of particular
interest to many librarians are the new Graphic Novels Core
Collection and the Nonbook Materials Core Collection
databases. Together they represent a great opportunity for building
collections in areas that are relatively new to the education scene and,
until now, have had limited coverage. The Avery Index to
Architectural Periodicals will be a key member of the Wilson Art
Suite, offering libraries and learning institutions unparalleled
coverage of the art world and art history. Plus, there are several new
“retrospective” databases available without which no academic and/or
school library would be complete. Biography Index Retrospective
helps researchers find information about people from antiquity to 1983.
The just released Business Periodicals Index Retrospective,
provides content of more than 1,000 business periodicals back to the
First World War…any business library will be obsolete without it. Even
more exciting is the combined Applied Science & Business Periodicals
Retrospective database — a perfect reference for academic and
business libraries. See more information about these new databases,
below:
Graphic Novels Core Collection
This database helps librarians bring to patrons
age-appropriate works from this increasingly popular literary form. This
WilsonWeb selection guide highlights approximately 2,000 recommended
titles with descriptive and evaluative annotations (plus cover art),
searchable by document type, author, title, subject, and grade level.
Graphic Novels Core Collection provides
indispensable assistance with collection development, readers’ advisory
and curriculum support. Strict standards are applied for rating
materials by age appropriateness. Descriptive and evaluative annotations
offer insight into both quality and content, and automatic links to
cover art gives librarians a first-person “feel” for the work.
Nonbook
Materials Core Collection
This database reflects today’s multimedia landscape,
highlighting some 2,000 resources for school and public libraries. It
includes coverage of electronic resources, audiobooks, video recordings,
sound recordings, games, simulations, and much more. As with other
members of the Core Collections series, it can be searched by document
type, author, title, subject and grade level.
Nonbook Materials Core Collection annotations
include review excerpts and awards, plus cataloging records are provided
for all items. There is an abundance of professional materials included,
too.
Avery Index to
Architectural Periodicals
This database offers a comprehensive listing of
journal articles on architecture and design, including bibliographic
descriptions on subjects such as the history and practice of
architecture, landscape architecture, city planning, historical
preservation, and interior design and decoration.
Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals
contains more than 600,000 entries surveying over seven hundred American
and international journals. It is easily searched with the Wilson Art
Suite, which includes databases such as Art Museum Image Gallery, Art
Full Text and Art Index Retrospective, relevant results are assured for
almost any art related topic.
Biography Index Retrospective: 1946 - 1983
This database provides information on notables across
all disciplines and subject areas, throughout history. Over 627,000
articles and book citations are included in this easy-to-use database.
Biography Index Retrospective indexes
interviews and profiles of history-makers, including writers, artists,
statesmen, sports figures, politicians, religious leaders, scientists,
educators, military leaders, teachers, actors, business people, and
more.
Business Periodicals Index Retrospective: 1913 - 1982
This database is a detailed index of the content of
more than 1,000 business periodicals back to the First World War. This
is likely to be the most in-depth, authentic record of 20th century
business and industry found in any single source. With more than 2.5
million articles, the database helps researchers compile vivid portraits
of historical business trends, events, people, and innovations; complete
with insights that only contemporaneous journalism can offer.
Business Periodicals Index Retrospective covers
a full range of business specialties-accounting to advertising,
computers to cosmetics, economics to entertainment, taxes to
transportation. Updated subject headings make finding information easy,
though historical subject headings are provided (and are searchable) for
insight into the evolution of methods and technology.
Applied Science &
Business Periodicals Retrospective: 1913 - 1983
This unique database combines coverage from Wilson’s
Applied Science & Technology Retrospective and Business Periodicals
Index Retrospective databases for those libraries than want a single
resource for articles on the most important events, issues and trends in
the history of business and industry. Researchers can search more than
4.5 million articles from more than 2,000 periodicals in this one
resource.
Applied Science & Business Periodicals
Retrospective is the perfect resource for tracking down important
studies, exploring historical controversies, finding papers by
innovators, researching the development of a particular technology, and
more.
