100 Years of
Core Collections (Standard Catalogs)
The Wilson
Core Collections assist librarians in collection
development, collection evaluation, and maintenance. The
series consists of seven databases that are also
published as print volumes: Public Library Core
Collection: Non-fiction; Fiction Core Collection; Senior
High Core Collection; Middle & Junior High Core
Collection; and Children's Core Collection; and two that
are Web-only: Graphic Novels Core Collection and Nonbook
Materials Core Collection. The bibliographic records in
these databases are greatlt enhanced with useful
information: book jacket images; information about best
lists and starred reviews; reading level
recommendations; and book reviews (including many
reviews in full text). Ray Barber will discuss the
varied content of these databases and the new interface
that makes them searchable in many ways unique to the
online experience.
