H.W. Wilson Publishes World Hunger
New Reference Shelf Volume Examines Scientific, Economic, Political, and Sociological Aspects

New York, New York, October 26, 2007
H.W. Wilson today announced World Hunger, a new work in the company's popular Reference Shelf book series. World Hunger examines the complex scientific, economic, political, and sociological aspects of hunger and famine--estimated to kill one child every 8 seconds worldwide--and explores today's best solutions from various approaches.

The volume touches on hunger in nations from North Korea to Zimbabwe to the United States, covering such central topics as "The Slow and Silent Killer: What Causes Famine," "Famines in the World Today," "Relief Efforts: Aid Versus Development," "Women and Children: Greatest Victims, Greatest Hope," "Promising Solution or Risky Experiment? The Biotechnology Debate," and "Food Stamps and Farm Subsidies: Hunger in America." Each section features articles from such leading sources as The Independent (London), The American Prospect, Finance & Development, The Lancet, African Business, The Nation, The Humanist, Economist, AgExporter, and others.

World Hunger is the fifth title of six to be released in The Reference Shelf 2007 (Volume 79). Each book in the Reference Shelf series offers extensive exploration of a topic of importance in modern society, in a compilation of notable articles from respected publications, abstracts of 20 to 30 additional articles, and a bibliography of other sources. Volume 79 includes Hispanic Americans (February), Global Epidemics (April), U.S. National Debate Topic 2007-2008: Health Care in Sub-Saharan Africa (June), International Perspectives on Education (August), World Hunger, and the upcoming volume Representative American Speeches 2006-2007 (December).

Review copies of Reference Shelf volumes are available for members of the press.
