H.W. Wilson today announced
World Hunger,
a new work in the company's popular Reference Shelf book series.
World Hunger examines the complex scientific, economic,
political, and sociological aspects of hunger and famine--estimated
to kill one child every 8 seconds worldwide--and explores today's
best solutions from various approaches.
The volume touches on hunger in nations from North
Korea to Zimbabwe to the United States, covering such central topics
as "The Slow and Silent Killer: What Causes Famine," "Famines in the
World Today," "Relief Efforts: Aid Versus Development," "Women and
Children: Greatest Victims, Greatest Hope," "Promising Solution or
Risky Experiment? The Biotechnology Debate," and "Food Stamps and
Farm Subsidies: Hunger in America." Each section features articles
from such leading sources as The Independent (London), The
American Prospect, Finance & Development, The Lancet, African
Business, The Nation, The Humanist, Economist, AgExporter, and
others.
World Hunger is the fifth title of six to
be released in The Reference Shelf 2007 (Volume 79). Each book in
the Reference Shelf series offers extensive exploration of a topic
of importance in modern society, in a compilation of notable
articles from respected publications, abstracts of 20 to 30
additional articles, and a bibliography of other sources. Volume 79
