Senior High School Library Catalog—an acclaimed resource for
collection development and curriculum support since 1926—has a new
edition in print, with a new name, expanded subject coverage, and
new features.
Now known as
Senior High Core Collection,
17th Edition: A Selection Guide, this annotated list of
recommended resources offers wider coverage of the arts, sports,
Islam and the Middle East, biography, cultural diversity, and other
topics essential to up-to-date collections. Librarians can search
more than 6,500 works in the main volume, and more than 2,400 in
three annual supplements (2008 through 2010)--data valuable for
collection development and maintenance, curriculum support, and
readers advisory for 9th through 12th graders.
Entries are primarily for books, but special
sections are devoted to periodicals and electronic resources. This
selection guide also includes many review sources and other
professional aids for librarians and school media specialists. Most
highly recommended ("Short List") titles are clearly marked,
allowing users to make the most of the expert insight that goes into
compiling Senior High Core Collection. Analytic entries cite
items in collections and anthologies.
Teacher Librarian wrote of an earlier
edition of Senior High Core Collection: "Should be...in every
school district as a core resource for collection building....Highly
recommended," and American Reference Books Annual called the
16th Edition "An essential professional tool....an aid in collection
development and evaluation."
