Graphic Novels Core Collection: A Selection Guide
Timely New Database Helps Librarians Select the Best of
a Growing Literary Form
New York, New York, November 21, 2007
H.W. Wilson's new
Graphic Novels Core
Collection: A Selection Guide helps librarians bring patrons
age-appropriate works from this increasingly popular literary form.
This WilsonWeb selection guide highlights approximately 2,000
recommended titles with descriptive and evaluative annotations (plus
cover art), searchable by author, title, subject, genre, and grade
level.
The latest release in Wilson's Core Collections
series of selection guides, Graphic Novels Core Collection
provides indispensable assistance with collection development,
readers' advisory and curriculum support. Strict standards are
applied for rating materials by age appropriateness. Descriptive and
evaluative annotations offer insight into both quality and content,
and automatic links to cover art gives librarians a first-person
"feel" for the work.
Like the other Wilson Core Collections, Graphic
Novels Core Collection allows users to narrow any search to
"Short List" (Most Recommended) titles -- an option that makes
maximum advantage of the editorial expertise that goes into
compiling the Wilson Standard Catalogs.
The database adds new entries throughout the
subscription year. An automated "What's New" query lets users find
what's been added to the database in the last week, month, year, or
since the last time they looked. Users can also configure the
database to email daily, weekly, or monthly alerts, citing new
materials relevant to their search topic as they're added.
Limiters for Fiction, Nonfiction, or Biography
reflect the growing diversity of subjects treated in graphic novel
format.
The H.W. Wilson Core Collection Selection Guides
also include Public Library Core Collection: Fiction
(formerly Fiction Catalog); Public Library Core Collection:
Nonfiction (formerly Public Library Catalog);
Children's Core Collection (formerly Children's Catalog);
Middle and Junior High Core Collection (formerly Middle and
Junior High School Library Catalog); and Senior High Core
Collection (formerly Senior High School Library Catalog). A new
selection guide, Nonbook Materials Core Collection will debut
in January 2008.
