H.W. Wilson today announced publication of
Representative American Speeches 2005-2006, new in The
Reference Shelf® book series. Each year, Representative American
Speeches rounds out the annual six-book Reference Shelf set,
gathering the year's most significant speeches on hot-button
subjects into a single handy volume.
In the wake of lively public debate on the renewal
of the PATRIOT Act and its provisions for domestic surveillance,
Representative American Speeches 2005-2006 opens with a section
on "Secrecy and Disclosure," including speeches by television
journalist Bill Moyers and CIA Director Michael Hayden, among
others. As New Orleans continues to recover from 2005's Hurricane
Katrina, a "Responding to Natural Disasters" section offers insights
from key figures in emergency management, including President George
W. Bush. Other sections include "American Culture and the Arts,"
"Farming and Agriculture," and "Africa," with speeches by such
notables as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of
Agriculture Mike Johanns, columnist William Safire, and others.
Twenty speeches are presented in total, along with
a cumulative speaker index for Representative American Speeches
back to 2000. An index to subjects covered by the speeches in
Representative American Speeches 2005-2006 rounds out the
volume.
Each book in The Reference Shelf® series brings
together 20 or more notable articles from diverse national
publications, exploring current subjects from multiple perspectives
for the benefit of researchers, students, and general readers.
Reference Shelf titles also provide abstracts of 20 to 30 additional
