H.W. Wilson today announced publication of
Representative American Speeches
2006-2007, new in The Reference Shelf® book series. Each
year, Representative American Speeches rounds out the annual
six-book Reference Shelf set, gathering the year's most significant
speeches on hot-button subjects into a single handy volume.
This year's volume features Nobel Laureate Al Gore
on the cover, in reference to a section of speeches on global
climate change which includes "Global Warming is an Immediate
Crisis," an address Gore delivered at the NYU School of Law. A
timely section on health care reform features speeches by Barack
Obama, John McCain, George W. Bush, and Risa Lavizzo-Mourey,
President and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. A section
on immigration presents speeches by George W. Bush,
Congressman Charles B. Rangel, U.S. Secretary of Commerce
Carlos M. Gutierrez, and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
Coverage of America's changing role in the global marketplace
includes speeches by presidential candidates Mitt Romney and
John Edwards among others, and a section on education
features speeches by U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret
Spellings, NEA President Reg Weaver, and others.
Twenty speeches are featured in total. An index to
subjects covered by the speeches in Representative American
Speeches 2006-2007 rounds out the volume, along with a
cumulative speaker index for Representative American Speeches back
to 2000.
