Wilson Releases Representative American Speeches 2008-2009
New Presidential Administration, the Auto Industry, and Energy Among Topics, with Speeches by Barack Obama, Dick Cheney, Bobby Jindal, Adolfo Carrion, Jr., and Others

Representative American Speeches 2008-2009, new in the popular Reference Shelf book series, includes speeches by President Obama, Vice President Biden, Bobby Jindal, Dick Cheney, Hillary Clinton and others as part of the opening section "A New Administration Takes Office." Other sections cover major issues that could shape the president's legacy: "The Energy Crisis," with speeches by James Mulva, president and CEO of ConocoPhillips, EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson and others; and "The Auto Industry: The Bailout and Beyond," including speeches by Barack Obama, former GM President and CEO "Fritz" Henderson, UAW President Ron Gettelfinger, and others. Rounding out the volume are speeches on two centers of major American cultural and technological change--"The Future of Journalism and the Media," with speeches by NPR President and CEO Vivian Schiller, New York Times publisher Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Jr., and others; and "The American City," with speeches by White House Office of Urban Affairs Policy Director Adolfo Carrion, Jr., Bruce Katz, vice president of The Brookings Institution, Greg Nickels, mayor of Seattle, and others.

Twenty-two speeches are presented in total. Each is prefaced by an editor's introduction noting the date and audience and summarizing the speech and its context. An index to subjects covered by the speeches in Representative American Speeches 2008-2009 is also provided, along with a cumulative speaker index for Representative American Speeches back to 2000.
