H.W. Wilson Foundation Renews
Scholarship Grants with Commitment of $570,000 to A.L.A.
Accredited Library Schools
New York, New York, December 7, 2007
The Board of Directors of The H.W. Wilson Foundation has
announced continuation of its support of education in library and
information science with a new round of scholarship grants.
Since 1957, H.W. Wilson has supported U.S. and
Canadian library and information science schools accredited by the
American Library Association. This year's scholarship program, the
13th consecutive, will deliver grants of $10,000 to each of 57
schools, for a total of $570,000. Grants will be distributed over
four years (2008-2011).
Attracting potential librarians to the field and
supporting qualified students are major goals of the program.
"Pursuing my library degree would have been impossible without a
full fellowship from the H.W. Wilson Foundation," said Dionne Mack-Harvin,
Executive Director of Brooklyn Public Library. "H.W. Wilson's
continued investment in library education is helping to grow the
next generation of librarians--and library leaders."
The program allows each school to distribute its
grant in accordance with its own scholarship criteria, as well as to
divide the total sum to accommodate a local institution's particular
needs. Library schools which receive accreditation during any of the
program years will receive grants the year following accreditation.
