H.W. Wilson today announced Global Epidemics, a new work
in the company's popular Reference Shelf book series. Global
Epidemics offers readers an in-depth look at the history of
epidemic disease, and the means by which civilization can fight
outbreaks collectively.
Five sections cover history-changing epidemics;
prevention, control, and eradication; the threat posed by avian flu;
the psychological and economic impact of epidemics; and
bioterrorism, in 29 articles from such leading sources as History
Today, U.S. News and World Report, National Geographic, Newsweek,
Emerging Infectious Diseases, The Futurist, and others.
Global Epidemics also features an appendix: "25 Years of AIDS"
(a timeline from U.N. Chronicle), plus a bibliography of

Global Epidemics is the second title of six
to be released in The Reference Shelf 2007 (Volume 79). Each book in
the Reference Shelf series offers extensive exploration of a topic
