H.W. Wilson Publishes Water Supply
New Reference Shelf Volume Explores Modern Strain on Global
Freshwater Resources, and Burgeoning Crises
New York, New York, May 1, 2008
The H.W. Wilson Company today announced Water Supply, a
new work in its popular Reference Shelf book series.
Water Supply examines such issues as the growing competition
for water resources, pollution, water management, and the effects of
climate change on water supply.
The first section, "The Global Water Supply: An
Overview" looks at the striking imbalance of water supply and
demand, and the impact of industry, agriculture, and modern
standards of living on water use. Section two, "Water Wars,"
explores conflict between nations, corporations, and other interests
over how water is distributed. Next, "Polluted Waters" highlights
the worldwide toll of sewage and industrial waste on water
resources. Section four, "Climate Change and Water Supply,"
considers global warming's expected impact on such water issues as
desertification, drought, and flooding. The final section, "Water
Management," looks at the latest strategies for finding and
distributing water.
Water Supply is the second title of six to
be released in The Reference Shelf 2008 (Volume 80). Each book in
the Reference Shelf series offers extensive exploration of a topic
of importance in modern society, in a compilation of notable
articles from respected publications, abstracts of 20 to 30
additional articles, and a bibliography of other sources. Volume 80
includes Celebrity Culture in the United States (February 2008),
Water Supply (April), U.S. National Debate Topic 2008-2009:
Alternative Energy (June), The American Presidency (August), The
Next Space Age (October), and Representative American Speeches
2007-2008 (December).
A forthcoming WilsonWeb database, Current
Issues: Environment, will also look at water resource issues.
Review copies of Reference Shelf volumes are
