New "Subject Pathfinder" Links
Guide Researchers to More Avenues of Exploration for Any
Topic
New York, New York, July 10, 2006
The latest round of WilsonWeb
enhancements includes an innovation that presents users
with an array of ideas for the exploration of any topic.
New
Subject Pathfinder links at the top of WilsonWeb
results screens help guide research, inviting users to
search subtopics and broader topics represented in their
initial results list, with a single click.
By displaying the subject headings
most frequently represented among articles that make up
the search results, Subject Pathfinder links
convey other aspects of the search topic that the
researcher may want to explore.
Subject Pathfinder can also
guide those researchers who aren't sure of the precise
terms for their topics of interest to the exact subjects
they need, saving guess-work and multiple searches. And
for those researchers seeking a broad overview of a
topic, Subject Pathfinder represents a snapshot
of related subjects most relevant to the topic searched,
each clickable for more in-depth exploration.
"The new innovation is built on the
foundation of the renowned Wilson indexing standards and
subject coverage," said Bernie Seiler, WilsonWeb Product
Manager. "It will be a boon for students writing papers,
journalists, and other researchers... And for the
library, the guidance represented by Subject Pathfinder
can make for faster turnover at workstations--in all,
better service for more researchers."
The new Subject Pathfinder
links are one of many enhancements now in effect with
WilsonWeb 2.7. Others include a new "Search Builder"
feature on the WilsonWeb Search History Screen that
allows users to combine past searches, refine them, or
create new ones. The layout of other screens on the
WilsonWeb interface has also been refined, with more
prominent buttons and links to make WilsonWeb tools more
accessible.
