More
Than 1,700 Periodicals Now in Full Text on WilsonWeb
New York, New York, July 24, 2002
More
than 1,700 select periodicals are now featured in full text on H.W. Wilson periodicals databases, the Company today announced
(of the more than 5,100 indexed and abstracted). What’s more,
full text articles on WilsonWeb are now accompanied by PDF page
images, making the charts, graphs, photos, and illustrations in
articles readily available to WilsonWeb researchers.
“We’re working to ensure that the
full-text content our databases bring into libraries reflects
the most trusted and sought-after sources in all areas of
research,” comments Ron Miller, H.W. Wilson Director of
Product Management.
“The full text of periodicals--complete
with page images--expands the resources available in subscribing
libraries,” said Mr. Miller. “We’ve also expanded search
options: With the new WilsonWeb, users can link to full text
residing on any of their library’s databases that are open-URL
compliant. This thanks to WilsonLink SFX-powered software.”
Quality Still Key
“Of course, the emphasis on the quality
of the sources remains. We want to provide researchers with
access to more periodicals electronically, while matching the
high standards librarians apply when adding periodicals to their
in-house collections.”
Coverage decisions for many of the Wilson
periodicals databases are made with the help of The American
Library Association’s Reference and User Services Association’s
Committee on Wilson Indexes, along with subscriber vote.
Decisions are also guided by the insight of editors who are
experts in the subjects covered by the databases--art experts,
engineers, members of the bar, and other specialists.
Peer-reviewed publications are
well-represented among WilsonWeb full text periodicals. More
than 500 of the full text periodicals covered are peer-reviewed.
“And with more than 150 staff members
boasting MLS or MLIS degrees,” continued Mr. Miller, “you
can be sure that Wilson’s organization and presentation of
data lends itself to efficient, reliable research.”
