Now available-Education Index
Retrospective: 1929-1983
New Database in the Wilson Retrospective Collection Helps Users
Search Over 830,000 Articles
New York, New York, August 1, 2005
H.W. Wilson today announced the latest addition to the Wilson
Retrospective Collection of periodicals databases: Education
Index Retrospective: 1929-1983. This is the space-saving
online equivalent to 33 Education Index print annuals, with
records for more than 830,000 articles from over 600 leading
periodicals.
For libraries supporting curricula in education,
social sciences, public policy and related fields, this new
resource unlocks the wealth of information, opinions, and research
present in decades of leading education literature. Whether data
from a historic field study, or reviews of a landmark book from
the time of its debut, Education Index Retrospective is the
perfect first stop for finding groundbreaking information.
Historical Research Using Up-to-Date Terms
Education Index Retrospective represents more than just the
transfer of data from print to electronic format. The H.W. Wilson
staff of librarians and subject specialists have carefully
reviewed and revised antiquated subject headings, making finding
information easy using contemporary terms. Original subject
headings remain, however, (and remain searchable) for insight into
the way issues of the day were framed. Personal names used as
subjects have been updated and standardized to ensure retrieval of
all records about an individual.
Tools to Help Researchers Find Actual
Articles
Like all the WilsonWeb databases, Education Index Retrospective
features seamless links to a subscriber's open-URL compliant
reference databases-without the added cost of a link server.
Clicking the WilsonLink icon launches an automatic search for full
text or additional information on all available open-URL compliant
resources, e.g. JSTOR and ERIC. In addition, WilsonLink provides
extended services, including an internet search and document
delivery options.
With Education Index Retrospective, a
library's periodicals collection becomes more accessible: the
WilsonWeb holdings indicator links to the subscriber's OPAC to let
researchers know if they'll find cited articles on the shelves.
Administrators can also add dynamic links to holdings messages or
custom messages to bibliographic citations-even limit search
results to cite only publications among their holdings.
Education Index has always been produced by an
in-house staff of librarians and subject specialists, with
consistent bibliographic standards and no gaps in coverage.
Education Index Retrospective reflects these high H.W. Wilson
standards. The database searches seamlessly with Education Index,
Education Full Text, Wilson OmniFile Full Text, and other
WilsonWeb databases.
