H.W. Wilson Releases International
Perspectives on Education
New Volume Looks at Education in the Era of
Globalization and Technological Change
New York, New York, September 10, 2007
H.W. Wilson today announced International Perspectives on
Education, a new work in the company’s popular Reference Shelf
book series. International Perspectives on Education examines
how ideas central to the value and purpose of education are evolving
in the context of a world growing ever smaller, as globalization
weaves greater interdependence among the world’s societies. From
Muslim integration to rethinking the value of higher education, from
rancor over the measurement of learning to borderless “open”
educational resources, this is a rich and timely analysis of
education in an era of accelerated change.
Five sections explore the conditions in which
students around the world prepare to compete in a global society,
and efforts to improve those conditions; ways in which curriculum
can be used to shape identities and values; how globalization
affects what’s being taught; how technology is shaping the classroom
experience; and the definition of “quality” education: vocational
versus academic; testing and standards; inclusiveness; voucher
programs, and other pressing issues. Each section delivers articles
from such leading sources as UN Chronicle, U.S. News & World
Report, World Policy Journal, Phi Delta Kappan, The Futurist, The
Chronicle of Higher Education, and others.
International Perspectives on Education is
the fourth title of six to be released in The Reference Shelf 2007
(Volume 79). Each book in the Reference Shelf series offers
extensive exploration of a topic of importance in modern society, in
a compilation of notable articles from respected publications,
abstracts of 20 to 30 additional articles, and a bibliography of
other sources. Volume 79 includes Global Epidemics
(February), Hispanic Americans (April), U.S. National
Debate Topic 2007–2008: Health Care in Sub-Saharan Africa
(June), International Perspectives on Education, and the
upcoming volumes World Hunger (October), and
Representative American Speeches 2006–2007 (December).
