presents an up-to-date "core collection" of resources, with entries
for more than 8,000 books in the main volume and an anticipated
2,400 new titles in paperbound supplements published 2005 through
2007 (at no extra charge). Extensive revisions in the areas of
health, science and technology, personal finance, sports, cooking
and gardening, and handicrafts make this a timely working reference
for the modern library. Biography, poetry and literary criticism
continue to receive comprehensive treatment.
Since 1934, Public Library
Catalog has proven a versatile tool in libraries, helping
reference librarians, acquisitions librarians, and catalogers with
collection development and maintenance, resource selection,
purchasing, readers' advisory, and general reference. Entries
present complete bibliographic data, price, subject headings,
descriptive annotations, evaluative quotations from reviews, and
information on electronic editions, for a complete range of works
published or distributed in the U.S..
Users can look up entries by author, title, up-to-date subject
headings, and Dewey Decimal Classification. Analytical entries for
parts of composite works—anthologies and collections—can be accessed
by title and author.

For users who prefer the convenience of online searching,
Public Library Catalog, Electronic
Edition now includes all the new content of the print
edition. Available as an annual subscription, the online edition
encompasses over 13,000 titles (as well as over 1,000 analytical
records for parts of collections or anthologies). Entries link to
review citations, excerpts, and full text reviews from WilsonWeb's Book Review Digest
database, at no additional charge. The electronic edition also
allows the convenience of searching descriptive annotations for
specific words, and the ability to check holdings for any book cited
via a link to the library's OPAC. Content from the 11th Edition of
Public Library Catalog
is presented as an archive, and both files can be searched together
and with other WilsonWeb databases.
