Children’s Core Collection-20th Edition
The standard of collection development for over a century!
Providing the highest standards of guidance in collection development and maintenance, as well as curriculum support, readers’ advisory, and general reference, Children’s Core Collection has been an indispensable tool in libraries for over 100 years.
The publication of the first H. W. Wilson Children’s Catalog in 1909 put an end to the haphazard system where teachers, printers, authors, ministers, and other interested parties compiled separate “Best Books” lists each year, offering instead a basic bibliography of recommended books compiled by a group of acknowledged experts.
The principles that made Children’s Catalog such a success continue to inform the compilation of each edition of Children’s Core Collection today.
The 20th edition features:
- Approximately 10,000 titles in the main edition (2010), covering fiction and nonfiction works, story collections, picture books, graphic novels, and magazines recommended for readers from preschool through sixth grade.
- Professional literature for children’s librarians, both periodicals and books.
- Approximately 10,000 titles in the main edition (2010), over 7,000 of which are new to this edition.
