A descriptive summary and, in most
instances, an excerpt from a reviewing source conclude the entry.
References are made from variant forms of authors’ names, from names of
joint authors, and from names of editors or compilers of short story
collections.
-
Analytical entries ,
are identified by the word "In," are made for parts of
composite works. Analytical entries heighten the usefulness of the
Catalog by expanding access to the library’s collections.
-
Title and Subject Index .
Each book is listed under title, which is followed by the name of
the author under which the entry for the book will be found in
Part I. Books are also listed under their main subjects or
themes, as well as under headings for genre, form,
or literary technique, if appropriate. Among specific
headings are those for persons, places, events,
historical periods, lifestyles, and legendary
characters. Editions printed in large type can be located
under the heading "Large print books." Subject
headings and subject cross references are printed in capital
letters.
