Ninth Book of Junior Authors & Illustrators

Edited by Connie C. Rockman

The range of talents and viewpoints in this newest volume in the series—covering some 200 authors & illustrators—represents the rich variety and multicultural nature of children's literature today (complete list). Included are recent Newbery Award winner Kate DiCamillo, Pura Belpré winner Julia Alvarez, and Coretta Scott King Award-winning artist Kadir Nelson. The vibrant excitement of nonfiction writing for today's young people is highlighted in profiles of Sibert Award winner Susan Bartoletti and Boston Globe–Horn Book winner Elizabeth Partridge, among others.

For 20 authors and artists whose careers include significant new works and honors since their profile in earlier editions of the series, all new entries are featured. Readers will enjoy new profiles of such major figures as Margaret Edwards Award winner Ursula LeGuin; Newbery winners Sid Fleischman and Betsy Byars; Caldecott winners Marc Simont and Ed Young; plus authors like Kate DiCamillo, Julia Alvarez, Jules Feiffer and others.

In keeping with Eighth Book, the new Ninth Book of Junior Authors & Illustrators features:

  • An attractive new format with larger portraits of the authors and jacket art illustrations.

  • More substantial bibliographies that include Web sites and suggestions for further research.

  • A list of major awards and citations that recognize excellence in literature for children and young adults.

  • A comprehensive index to all volumes of the Junior Authors & Illustrators Series.
