Context is Key
According to Thomas Mann, a
reference librarian at the Library of Congress, even experienced Boolean
searchers can be overwhelmed by jumbled results that show the right words
in inappropriate contexts. Searches fail when users have to rely on sheer
guesswork to come up with the best terms to describe their needs. The
solution is browse displays of precise, precoordinated subject strings
that put information in context. Then researchers only have to recognize
and choose from a whole range of relevant options they never could have
guessed in advance. Happily, browse displays are a key feature of
WilsonWeb searching. This is just one example of how WilsonWeb marries the
cutting edge of 21st century information technology with over 100 years of
unsurpassed editorial integrity.
