Review from: American
Reference Books Annual 2004
Health and medical care
are subjects of interest to most Americans. This book endeavors to add to
the discourse by presenting the most important and debated issues in the
health care field to a wide audience. The reference is a compilation of
articles reprinted from the original sources. The majority of these
sources are publications for the layperson, such as newspapers, Time,
and Newsweek. Reprints from discipline-specific periodicals (e.g., HR
Magazine) and professional health care journals (e.g., Hastings
Center Report) are included as well. The chapter topics include the
treatment of common illnesses, the business of health care, women's
health, older health, and alternative medicine. Each chapter includes from
5 to 7 reprints, the majority of which are just a few pages in
length….The book concludes with a small glossary of health care terms, a
directory of selected health Internet sites, and a short section of
periodical abstracts on related topics. |
