Review
from: American Reference Books Annual 2002
This addition to The Reference Shelf series
contains 27 reprinted articles that were originally published in popular
newspapers and journals (e.g., The Washington Post, USA Today)
between 1996-2000. These brief pieces provide authoritative coverage of
the complex issues of campaign finance reform for students and those new
to the subject.
The work is organized in four sections. The
first section creates a historical overview from the late 1880s to the
present and focuses on the creation of laws and use of loopholes. The role
of the “soft money” loophole and political action committees are
discussed in the second chapter. Chapter 3 provides a forum for the debate
on the need for reform. Its articles provide balanced coverage of both
sides of the issue. The last chapter is focused on the recent efforts
toward reform at the local and federal levels.
The volume is complete with a bibliography,
a Webography, and a list of annotated periodical articles. This work is an
excellent resource for school, public, or undergraduate collections. |
