Review from: American Reference Books Annual 2005
Current Biography International Yearbook 2003 is
the latest addition to the Current Biography family of resources.
Beginning with its first volume in 2002, Current Biography
International Yearbook expands the coverage of its counterpart,
Current Biography Yearbook (see ARBA 2005), to noted individuals and
figures outside the United States. A wide range of professions is
represented, as individuals included are business and industry leaders,
artists, actors, writers, musicians, religious leaders, athletes, and
political leaders and activists. Virtually identical in format and
arrangement as Current Biography Yearbook, entries in International
Yearbook are arranged alphabetically and are easily identified from a list
of biographical sketches. Also included are classification listings by
profession and country, and an index to the 2002 and 2003 volumes of
International Yearbook.
International Yearbook presents biographical
information of some 200 international figures, from over 50 countries,
with a balanced coverage of both men and women from various age groups and
nationalities. Entries are written in an easy-to-read style, appealing to
all audiences and reading levels, Each profile includes the individual’s
full name (with pronunciation guide where necessary), date of birth,
profession, contact information, one or more photographs of the individual
being profiled, and a bibliography of suggested resources for more
information. Content for the biographical sketches is drawn from various
resources, including interviews, newspapers, magazines, reference books,
Websites, and news releases. Entries are also comprised of direct
quotations from the individuals being profiled, along with their personal
opinions and beliefs, and observations made by other notable figures and
colleagues.
Current Biography International Yearbook 2003 is
a very useful biographical resource that makes a good companion to the
well-established Current Biography series. It would certainly be a
practical addition to any school, public, or academic library reference
collection. |
